Expedition Award

An expedition typically refers to a long journey or voyage undertaken for a specific purpose, often exploratory, scientific, geographic, military or political in nature.

In the BB, the Expedition Award is about learning to plan and reach far goals, mobility, simple overnight camps and other, related, small activities.

The requisite for the Expedition Award is some basic knowledge of First Aid, preferably a Basic First Aid Award, against any emergencies or injuries during the Expedition Practical Test.

BASIC LEVEL

  • Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and practice of the Highway Code; AND
  • Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and practice of the Country Code; AND
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of map and compass reading; AND
  • Able to pack a rucksack for the Expedition; AND
  • Demonstrate respect for, use, care and storage of Equipment for Expedition; AND
  • Complete an Expedition of at least 16 km in rural or jungle area, on foot and over 2D1N accompanied by at least one adult assessor; AND
  • Able to demonstrate simple camping skills during the Expedition; AND
  • Keep a detailed log of the Expedition, to be submitted for assessment at the end of the Expedition.
      

ADVANCED LEVEL

  • Passed BASIC LEVEL EXPEDITION; AND
  • Passed ADVANCED LEVEL CAMPING; AND
  • Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and practice of safety during the Expedition; AND
  • Able to demonstrate proper planning and preparation for the Expedition; AND
  • Demonstrate ability to procure and use maps and compass in planning & preparation for the Expedition; AND
  • Complete an Expedition of at least 24 km in rural or jungle area, under own power or by bus over 2D1N accompanied by at least one adult assessor; AND
  • Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and practice of the "Leave No Trace" principles; AND
  • Keep a detailed log of the Expedition, to be submitted for assessment at the end of the Expedition.
